The + button asks Application or Website. Apps and categories come from Apple's own picker; a website can come from there too, or be typed.
Three kinds
- An app, picked from Apple's list. Furlough is never told which app it is — iOS hands over a token that means nothing off this phone — but iOS still draws the real icon and name beside it.
- A category: Social, Entertainment, and the rest. Everything in a category is blocked all day. An app inside one that you give windows to is excepted from it.
- A website, blocked in every browser on the phone, subdomains included. There are two kinds, and they are not the same.
The two kinds of website
This is the one thing worth reading twice, because the difference is invisible once a site is in the list.
- Typed. Website on the + button asks for an address. Its hours are enforced, but it gets no daily budget: iOS only counts a site it minted itself.
- From the picker. Three levels in — open a category, scroll past its apps, tap Add Website. That one gets a budget and Furlough's own shield.
The guide sheet in the app walks you into the picker, and the picker repeats the steps in its footer, because three levels down is easy to lose. If a site needs a budget rather than only hours, it has to come from there.
Once it is added
- Nothing is enforced yet. Adding is instant and changes nothing at all. Saving the first rule is what starts it — and a first rule is always tighter than nothing, so it lands at once rather than waiting.
- Nicknames. A nickname takes the app's place on the shield, the widget and its notifications.
- The other half. Blocking the YouTube app and leaving youtube.com open is the gap most people find a week later. Furlough offers the other side when it recognises one.
While anything is shielded, iOS is told to refuse app deletion, so Furlough cannot be deleted as a shortcut past it. Turning off Screen Time access still lifts everything — see Support.
